Changing my plans last minute to go to Hottai Waterfall turned out to be a great idea. While it ended up being a cloudy day, the timing of the fall colors was perfect. A short walk up a set of stairs takes you to an excellent vantage point that looks over the waterfall. The red, yellow, and orange colors contrasted well with the roaring water plummeting over the rocks. After enjoying the fall colors, I took a dip in a nice outdoor bath at Foresta Chokai, only about twenty minutes from the waterfall. The hot springs felt amazing on a chilly afternoon. Now, with the season coming to an end soon, the BES Adventurer hopes to enjoy the autumn colors one more time before the snow arrives and Akita becomes a winter wonderland!

I recommend to camp there! You can see wonderful starry sky.
And I think it’s worth going to Shishigahana marsh in this season. There are Japanese beeches and Chokai moss.
