This week, I ventured to Ookama Onsen (hot springs) in Nyuto by bicycle (that’s right! by bike!). There is nothing quite like the wind and sun upon my face with nothing but the mountains ahead and the city behind me. It was a grueling uphill battle from Tazawako to Nyuto but well worth the reward once I got there. The hot springs water felt great, and the outdoor bath was relaxing in the chilly evening after dinner. To be honest, the journey there and back was as rewarding as the hot springs itself. I discovered some beautiful countryside areas along the way. Dragonflies surrounded me while I rode backcountry roads and watched the hard work of rice harvesting. On my return the next day, I stopped and took a morning swim in Tazawako, rejuvenating my mind and spirit before the long ride home. Unfortunately, it was too early for fall colors, which means the BES Adventurer must continue the journey around beautiful Akita as the leaves begin to change color.

Wow, nice!! I can’t imagine going to Nyuto by bike. I enjoyed trekking to Mt. Nyuto last week. I recommend visiting Mt. Moriyoshi for finding autumn colores this month.

Haha, it wasn’t easy! But the hot springs felt great. Glad you enjoyed hiking Mt. Nyuto! The weather was really nice last week. I hope to hike that mountain someday. I went to Mt. Moriyoshi last month for fall colors, it is really beautiful! Maybe I will try a different hiking course this year.

I also hiked Mt. Moriyoshi from Kometsuga mountain hut last Sunday. There were few hikers compared with the other trails and I enjoyed fall colors. Finally, I met the bear on my way to home!! Fortunately, he/she returned to the forest, there was no use for bear spray, hahaha.

You saw a bear!?!? Did you tell the bear it’s okay, you are friends? haha. Glad you are okay! It was probably just looking for fall mushrooms or escaping from Matagi, haha. I would like to go to Mt. Moriyoshi to see the fall colors. It’s a really beautiful area in autumn.
