Happy New Year, everyone! Recently, Akita has been getting a lot of snow, and what better way to enjoy it than to go out and play in it! The past couple of weekends, I have enjoyed the fresh powder blanketing the Deep North. I went to Geto Ski Resort after a heavy snowfall, and all day I made new tracks in the fresh powder. The tree-runs were fantastic! Indeed a snowboarder’s ideal conditions. While not in Akita, Geto is just a quick jaunt across the border into Iwate. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to go skiing or boarding.
This past Sunday, I went snowshoeing at Mount Taihei. The weather was gorgeous, and everyone attending the event was kind and helpful. Every year, Mantarame holds a snowshoeing event for adults. We hiked through The Boon area and summited a nearby mountain to Myoken Shrine. There is a beautiful view of Mount Taihei at the top. If you desire to do some winter activities, snowshoeing is a great way to explore Akita’s snow-covered mountains. While I am not sure of my next adventure, please check in from time to time to see where the BES Adventurer continues the journey around Akita!
