Wind upon my face. Sun on my back. Several challenging hills to climb. While biking the Oga coastline wasn’t easy, it was spectacular. The beautiful rocky shoreline and majestic blue sea made for a gorgeous ride. However, my start to the morning didn’t go so well.
First, as I was biking the trail along Detohama beach, I rode into an invisible drainage ditch. Nothing serious happened, just a few scrapes, but an upsetting start to the day. Then about thirty minutes later, my bike tire blew! So, I spent the next thirty minutes fixing my flat tire. After spending about an hour searching for a bike shop to buy a new tube, I finally got back on the road. After lunch on the beach, the exploration of a mysterious cave, and a refreshing dip in the sea, I made my way to my hotel in the Oga Onsen Village.
I enjoyed the Oga Hotel. After spending a relaxing time in the hot springs, I enjoyed a fabulous meal, which included Akita beef and Akita sake. And of course, relaxing in a yukata is always lovely. It was nice to have a hotel almost to myself. After an enjoyable weekend in Oga, and biking over 160 kilometers, it is time for the BES Adventurer to push his limits and continue to explore beautiful destinations throughout all of Akita!
