After a failed attempt to hike Komagatake last week, I felt compelled to try again this past weekend. With it being early in the hiking season, several parts of the trails were still snow-covered. But that did not stop us! The weather was beautiful as we hiked to the top. Unfortunately, clouds eventually rolled in blocking many of the amazing views the national park has to offer. But, with time to spare, we hiked three summits, Odake, Yokodake, and Yakimori. Every summit offered panoramic views of Akita and the surrounding areas. If you are looking for an abundance of hiking trails and breathtaking scenery, Komagatake is the place to go.
After a strenuous hike, I soothed my aching legs at Ganiba hot springs. Ganiba has a wonderful outdoor hot spring nestled in the forest that offers a truly relaxing environment. And what could help complete a perfect day? Babahera ice cream of course! It was my first time eating the flower-shaped ice cream, and I really enjoyed the flavors. With summer here, the BES Adventurer must continue the journey around Akita!
