I thought after visiting Dakigaeri Gorge that my hunt for autumn leaves was over, but I was wrong! Sunday, I went to Oyasukyo, a beautiful area in Yuzawa. The magnificent autumn colors took my breath away. Stunning, beautiful, and breathtaking are all words that describe the fall leaves in the gorge. As you enter the ravine, hot springs water spouts and gushes from the cracks in the rocks, filling the air with steam. With the autumn leaves, swooshing sounds of steam, and crystal clear river, you really can’t ask for a more postcard scenery.
And what else can make a day trip unforgettable? A hot bowl of ramen, of course! For lunch, we had soy ramen at Chojuken in Yuzawa City. It is worth the wait in the long line, for it is incredibly delicious! Will there be more red leaf hunting next week? I’m not sure. But I do know that the BES Adventurer must continue the journey around beautiful Akita!
Continuing with Heian tradition, I will write another waka…
Walking the foot path
Beneath vivid fall colors
Steam rises above
Leaves and thoughts floating away
My mind clear as the riverWaka by Dustin Clark
I hope you enjoyed following the BES Adventurer to Oyasukyo. Please check out my other posts or come back soon to see where the journey takes me next!
